Preventative social & emotional learning

Teach young people to pause before they react

Word Guard is a privacy-first mental rehearsal tool that helps children and teenagers name what they feel, pause under pressure, and rehearse a calmer next step. No message monitoring, no surveillance — just guided practice built around the RTL framework: Recognise, Think, Lead, Rehearse.

Privacy first, by design

Word Guard does not read private messages, scan conversations or track who a young person is talking to. Instead of watching behaviour, it builds the skill that prevents the harm: the ability to pause, name a feeling, and choose a better response. Reflections stay private to the learner, and educators only see engagement and wellbeing signals — never message content.

How Word Guard keeps students safe

No message reading, no conversation scanning, no surveillance.

Student reflections stay private and never train AI models.

Teachers and guardians stay the decision-makers, always.

Every AI script is grounded in the published RTL curriculum.

The RTL framework

Every lesson, drill and reflection in Word Guard runs on the same four repeatable moves, so the language stays consistent from age six to age seventeen.

R

Recognise

Notice the body signals and name the feeling before it takes over — heat in the chest, tight jaw, racing thoughts.

T

Think

Create deliberate space between the trigger and the response, so the thinking brain catches up with the feeling brain.

L

Lead

Choose the response you would be proud of an hour later, instead of the one that feels fastest right now.

R

Rehearse

Practise the calm version in advance, so it is already familiar when the real pressure arrives.

One framework, four age bands

Vocabulary, pacing and interaction style adapt to each stage, while the underlying moves stay the same — so a nine-year-old and a sixteen-year-old are learning the same skill in their own language.

Ages 6–8

Foundation

Naming big feelings with simple words, one-tap choices and spoken encouragement.

Ages 9–11

Building

Recognising triggers, practising the pause, and responding to unkind behaviour safely.

Ages 12–14

Strengthening

Pressure online and in person, group dynamics, and self-leadership under stress.

Ages 15–17

Advanced

Emotional intelligence, identity, and rehearsing difficult conversations with intent.

Try the pause protocol tonight

The single most useful thing a parent or teacher can do is rehearse the pause before it is needed. Our free guide walks through the three steps — spotting the trigger, setting a short digital boundary, and rehearsing the calm response out loud.
